An article titled “Labor of Love” in the winter 2012 issue of Tennesee Alumnus offers some clues. The information is nothing earth shaking–mainly common sense. But it is nice to know that what mom has always told us does have some scientific merit.

So which marriages tend to fare the best?

• Ones where the wives are better looking than the men. What a shocker! But true. When I see a gorgeous man married to a plain woman, or a homely woman, it just seems weird. Sad but true. And the studies back this up. When a not-so-good looking man marries a really atractive woman, he feels he got more than he deserved. So he works hard to maintain it. The woman doesn’t mind so much, because women tend to want supportive husbands more than drop dead gorgeous ones. (Even though that might not be so bad either.)
• Marriages where the wife is thinner than the husband. Another shocker! If the woman is thinner than the man, he is satisfied, as he sees the wife offering something he cares about. If the woman is heavier than he is, he sees her contributing less to the marriage. huh? Doesn’t make sense, but you have to get into the head of a man. A woman doesn’t mind if the husband is fatter than she is, because his satisfaction is more important to her than his waistline.
• If either of you are neurotic, have more sex. It makes you less neurotic.
• Be less forgiving. This is good to know. Don’t take this to an extreme, but if you are too quick to forgive and forgive too often, the bad behavior is likely to repeat.

This article reinforces to me that I need to go on a diet if I am to meet someone. And to be less forgiving. I tend to be too forgiving, and it can backfire. Good tidbits all.

Some women don’t like motorcycles, but I think I would really like to ride. I met a guy on match who has one but it is stored in another state. Another guy I know has one but isn’t working, and he always fiddling with harley davidson motorcycle parts all of the time  I want to ride someone’s Harley!

The last time I volunteered for a presidential campaign was Al Gore’s. I really wanted him to win. I think we would be in a much better position now if he had won. But, oh well. I didn’t volunteer in the 2008 race, because I was torn between Clinton and Obana. I didn’t know who to work for. And by the time Obama got the nomination, I didn’t have time. But this time I would like to do it.

It is very fulfilling to be involved, not only to try to help our candidate win, but to be on the inside. To help talk about strategy, to discuss the latest developments, and to work to save costs, like how to best get the word out and save money, like trying to find cheap campaign signs and people who can underwrite ampaign get-togethers.
